Welcome to TrulyMail 2.0

by TrulyMail Support 7. July 2009 06:00

We have finally released TrulyMail 2.0. It was a long road but it was truly a labor of love. We have added so many new features to TrulyMail 2.0 that we wanted to use this month's blog entry to help you understand them. As with anything, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us (from within TrulyMail, via email, in our forums, etc.).

The biggest feature we have added is email support. As you likely know, TrulyMail is a replacement for email. TrulyMail messages completely bypass all email systems and travel only through the secure TrulyMail servers. However, sometimes you want to send a message to both TrulyMail users as well as those still on email. We understand this and we understand that it will make your life easier when you can send a single message to both types of recipients.

Now, since we are supporting email, we have added many features which we believe are unique to TrulyMail. For example, you can block remote images. This is not so unique. However, in TrulyMail, you can block remote images on a user by user basic. Even better than that is that you can remove some images before showing others. Why is this important? Well, imagine you have remote images blocked but you receive a newsletter which includes many images of, say, mobile phones. You want to see the phones but you are concerned there are tracking images (web beacons) included with the remote images. With other email clients, you can show all or none of these remote images. However, with TrulyMail, you can see all the addresses of all the remote images and even remove some images while leaving others.

For example, perhaps you see an image coming from http://AdServer.com/tracking.asp?cid=123-456-7890. This address is very suspicious because it likely contains information about you. You can easily remove just this one image before showing the other remote images. That image will never be called and you will not be tracked. TrulyMail is all about giving you the tools to keep your private information private. TrulyMail even helps you by highlighting questionable image addresses. Just click on Show Image URLs when reading a message and you should understand.

We have also added a new reply type of Follow Up. So, now you have four types: Reply (send a message you received, with new comments, to the sender), Reply to All (send a message you received, with new comments, to the sender and all recipients), Forward (send a message, with new comments and attachments, to a new recipient), and Follow Up (send a message you previously sent too all recipients with some additional comments from you). This is useful when you need to send more information after you send a message.

Of course, we have other solutions for this same problem. Now, you can go to Tools->Options and then go to the Send/Receive tab. Look at the area called Second Thoughts. Here you can set a delay for all of your messages. Perhaps you find that you often wish you could 'take back' an email one minute after you send it. Of course, with TrulyMail you can but with email you cannot. Since TrulyMail now supports email, we thought you would like the option with email as well. With this feature, you can delay all of your messages by, say, 10 minutes. Then, after you click Send Now, you will still have 10 minutes before the message is really sent. During this time, the message is sitting in your outbox and you can easily open it, change it, or delete it altogether.

While you are in the Options window, look at the email tab. Here you can set several options specific to email. You can automatically add recipients to your address book, you can automatically request a return receipt for all email (you can also do this user by user in the address book), and you can even flag to never process return receipts.

Since TrulyMail was built, from the beginning, to show you when someone received your message, we thought we would add support for this to email. Of course, email does not work well in this area due to the nature of email. However, what we have now is much better than the nothing you normally get with email. Now, when you receive a return receipt via email, TrulyMail will allow you to search for the original (sent) message and allow you to update that as received and read. You will even see the Rec and View percentage columns update. This way, you can still know which messages are not received, yet.

There are many more features to 2.0. The best way to learn them is to use TrulyMail and look around. Especially look under Tools->Options to see what you can change.

We hope you like TrulyMail 2.0. We have worked hard on it and we think it is the best communication system around. Please let us know what you think.
